Going for the future with the SAP Cloud Platform and Fiori 3 – our review of the DSAG Technology Days 2019 in Bonn.

VANTAiO auf dem Jahreskongress 2018

Under the motto "Do IT yourself: Paths to the Cloud: think together, act individually", the 17th DSAG Technology Days took place in the World Conference Center Bonn on 12 and 13 February 2019 – and gave us exciting prospects for pioneering developments around the SAP User Interface. However, we were not only interested visitors on site, but also contributed two recent reports on the lecture program.

Together with our customer, the Uhlmann Group, we presented its new global news portal based on the SAP Cloud Platform. The well-attended presentation showed the pilot project in detail and highlighted in particular the VANTAiO experience with a hybrid portal architecture, i.e. the connection between the SAP Cloud Platform and an SAP Enterprise Portal.

In the second presentation titled "Rohde & Schwarz: Extension of a modern intranet based on SAP Jam Collaboration with custom SAPUI5 Apps", our partner frequi presented together with SAP and the customer the new VANTAiO bulletin board in the Rohde & Schwarz employee portal. The new VANTAiO module uses the SAP Cloud Platform as a execution system and – because of SAPUI5 technology  – can be very universally integrated in SAP solutions such as SAP Jam, SAP Success Factors, SAP Cloud Platform Portal or the SAP Enterprise Portal. Thanks to its multi-client capability, the application is also particularly suitable for companies that want to use a bulletin board globally in various company locations.

Overall, the UX Evolution to Fiori 3 was certainly our highlight in the strategic direction of SAP. Fiori 3 excellently addresses the companies' desire for harmonized and up-to-date user interface standards across all SAP products. The scope of functions are amongst others central services such as search, notifications, inbox, CoPilot integration, but also subject-specific homepages with their menu structures. Thus, the focused tile approach of the Fiori Launchpad is history and the design freedom also for SAP partners becomes much more flexible, similar to the design of modern portals. The future central Fiori Launchpad with call option for all SAP products will be published  on the SAP Cloud Platform portal service. Thus, it is clear that the SAP Cloud Platform and above all the portal will become the universal "UI Integration System" for SAP and nonSAP systems. We expect the first showcases around the SAPPHIRE 2019 in May.
