SAP NetWeaver is the SAP platform for business applications and forms the infrastructure for all other SAP applications. It lies as a basic technology between business applications and database.

SAP NetWeaver serves both as a development and runtime environment for SAP applications and as an interface for the integration of business processes and databases from various sources. The platform uses web services technologies and is thus able to connect various, often incompatible web services. As an open, web-based platform and its service-oriented architecture (SOA), SAP NetWeaver can be used for the development and integration of SAP applications as well as third-party systems and applications. This allows developers to integrate information and processes from geographically dispersed locations with different technologies, such as: .NET (Microsoft), WebSphere (IBM) or Java (Sun/Oracle).
