Joule Work is SAP’s new entry point for AI-supported work in the enterprise – introduced in the context of SAP Sapphire 2026. The focus is no longer on classic navigation through individual applications, but on working directly through goals, tasks, conversations, and AI agents. Users describe what they want to achieve. Joule then helps them find information, structure tasks, analyze data, initiate processes, and coordinate work steps across SAP and non-SAP systems.

Joule Work changes the way people work with enterprise software
Joule Work changes the way people work with enterprise software. Instead of first searching for the right application, transaction, or page, work starts through natural input: a question, a goal, a task, or a desired outcome.
Joule can access business context, bring together relevant information, and involve suitable Joule Assistants or Joule Agents. The goal is a working mode in which complex tasks no longer have to be handled across many separate systems, but from one central work context.

Typical use cases include:
Say what you want to know!
Conversations are the entry point into Joule Work. Users formulate in natural language what they want to know, analyze, or achieve. Joule brings together information from SAP and third-party systems, provides recommended actions, or initiates suitable next steps.

Dynamic workspaces for more complex tasks
Spaces extend simple conversations into a structured work context. They act as dynamic workspaces in which information, tasks, decisions, discussions, and AI support can be brought together.
SAP describes Spaces as an entry point for more complex workflows. Conversations can transition into Spaces when a simple question becomes a multi-step work process – for example when handling a customer case, preparing a decision, or coordinating between business departments, IT, and management.

Vibe Coding with SAP Joule Studio ✨
With the help of the new Joule Studio 2.0 development platform, which SAP presented at Sapphire in May 2026, Joule Work can also be used by non-developers to create and deploy their own AI agents, apps, and workflows.
What is new above all is the development approach: instead of modeling or programming applications fully manually, users first describe in business terms what should be achieved. Joule Studio automatically generates initial processes, interfaces, agent structures, and technical artifacts from this.
This means business departments can also create their own automations and workflows with AI support, while professional developers can extend and individually adapt the generated content. At the same time, Joule Studio 2.0 accesses SAP business context, processes, and enterprise data, enabling the development of AI applications with a direct connection to real business processes.

With Joule Work, SAP is introducing a cross-platform desktop app for direct access to AI-supported business processes for the first time. Instead of opening SAP applications exclusively in the browser, users receive a central digital workplace for SAP and non-SAP systems – available on Windows, macOS, and mobile devices.

Joule Work brings together conversations, spaces, tasks, and AI agents in a unified user interface, creating a new way of interacting with enterprise software: away from classic menus and transactions and toward a work- and goal-oriented work context. In combination with AI, this creates a new generation of the SAP workplace.
New name, familiar functions: SAP Mobile Start has been replaced by Joule Work as the mobile application and receives a new app icon as well as an updated user interface. All core functions remain available, allowing customers and end users to continue working in existing workflows without interruption.
The new version of the app therefore supports both classic access to SAP systems via SAP Build Work Zone and the new SAP Joule Work user experience. In both cases, it enables users to control complex work steps from a smartphone, retrieve information, and continue workflows.
This also makes Joule Work relevant for target groups that do not permanently work at a traditional desktop workplace: executives, field service, service teams, production, logistics, and mobile business departments.
In the SAP Joule Work experience, Conversations, Spaces, and Voice Interaction are available as central mobile functions.

Joule Work does not replace SAP Build Work Zone – rather, two complementary layers are emerging: Work Zone organizes the digital workplace with applications, content, and roles. Joule Work changes the interaction with work itself.
Joule Work and SAP Build Work Zone are not the same – both follow different concepts for the digital workplace.
The introduction of SAP Joule Work does not replace existing SAP workplace solutions, but creates a new additional way of working for AI-supported processes and interactions. SAP positions Joule Work as a dynamic, AI-native workspace for intent-based collaboration with Joule Assistants and AI Agents – while SAP Build Work Zone remains the strategic platform for classic digital workplaces, portals, and role-based enterprise processes.
For existing SAP Build and SAP Build Work Zone customers, this explicitly means that no migration or replacement is required. SAP confirms in its official materials that SAP Build remains on the market, continues to be actively developed, and that customers can continue using their existing solutions without interruption. At the same time, SAP will continue investing in SAP Build Work Zone – including personalization, agentic workspaces, enterprise readiness, and AI-supported extensions.

From VANTAiO’s perspective, both worlds will increasingly grow together in the future: SAP Build Work Zone remains the central platform for structured enterprise portals, navigation, role and content management, and classic business applications. Joule Work complements this environment with a new, AI-native interaction layer in which users formulate tasks in natural language and dynamically execute processes across SAP and non-SAP systems.
Both approaches will play an important role in the future. For many companies, SAP Build Work Zone remains the central platform for a structured digital workplace in the SAP environment and for business-critical applications. At the same time, SAP positions Joule Work as a new AI-native work environment and as the future central entry point for collaborating with SAP systems, AI Agents, and intelligent business processes.
From our perspective, the future is therefore not an either-or decision, but an increasing convergence of both worlds: structured digital workplaces in the SAP environment on the one hand, and adaptive, AI-supported ways of working with Joule Work on the other.
What is SAP Joule Work?
SAP Joule Work is a new AI-based work environment from SAP. Instead of switching between many applications, users simply describe their goal in natural language – Joule Work then automatically organizes information, processes, and AI agents in the background. SAP describes Joule Work as a „dynamic workspace” that is guided by the user’s intent.
No. SAP explicitly positions Joule Work as an additional new work interface – not as a replacement for SAP Build Work Zone. Existing entry portals, launchpads, and digital workplaces remain relevant. The official materials even explicitly state that Joule Work complements existing entry points such as SAP Build Work Zone.
SAP Build Work Zone organizes applications, content, roles, and navigation in the classic way using pages, menus, and workspaces. Joule Work, by contrast, follows an AI-centered approach: the user formulates a goal („I want to resolve a supply bottleneck”), and the interface dynamically generates suitable information, actions, and processes.
In short:
SAP Build Work Zone: structured digital workplace
SAP Joule Work: intent-based AI workspace
Partly yes – but much less frequently. SAP describes Joule Work as a central interface that coordinates processes, data, and AI agents across SAP and non-SAP systems. Many tasks are intended to be completed directly from conversations, suggestions, or dynamic „Spaces”.
„Spaces” are dynamic, AI-generated work areas. They are created depending on the user’s current goal and automatically bring together relevant data, tasks, agents, and actions. SAP describes them as adaptive workspaces for complex problem-solving.
Technical capabilities & integration
Yes. SAP repeatedly emphasizes that Joule Work can orchestrate processes across SAP and non-SAP systems. This is enabled, among other things, by SAP Integration Suite and new agent architectures.
AI is not just an additional feature, but the central operating logic. Joule Work uses Joule Assistants and Joule Agents to suggest tasks, automate processes, and prepare decisions. According to SAP, the goal is for people to focus more on decisions while AI takes over routine tasks.
Yes. For this purpose, SAP is introducing the new „Joule Studio”. There, companies can develop their own AI agents, workflows, and applications – both with low-code and with professional development. Joule Studio is integrated directly into Joule Work.
No. SAP explicitly communicates that SAP Build will remain available and will not be discontinued. Existing projects can continue to be used and expanded. For new AI-first scenarios, however, SAP increasingly recommends Joule Studio.
Availability & target groups
SAP presented Joule Work at Sapphire 2026. General availability is currently planned for the end of 2026.
Yes. SAP explicitly positions Joule Work as a cross-platform work environment for browser, desktop, and mobile. Supported experiences include desktop experiences for different operating systems as well as mobile use including voice input.
Especially for companies that need to coordinate many processes across different systems and want to provide their employees with a modern AI-based work environment. Joule Work is particularly interesting wherever many manual handovers, system changes, and coordination efforts take place today.
